Karen Brooks, RN and Kate Zink, RN. North East, Maryland.
Our mission is to listen, educate and care for each person as a whole—providing individualized, holistic and drug-free support that helps the body function as it was designed to function.
The Well Cell exists to give people hope, help them better understand their bodies, and create a place where they feel heard, cared for and supported—whether they come to us seeking relief, searching for answers or simply wanting to feel and function their best.
The Well Cell began with a simple belief: people deserve more than another pill, another protocol, or another appointment where they leave feeling unheard.
For Karen and Kate, that belief is both professional and deeply personal.
We are nurses, but we’ve also been patients. We have each walked through significant health challenges of our own—experiences that changed the way we looked at health, the body, and the way people are cared for.
Those seasons taught us that sometimes the symptoms are only part of the story. They taught us to ask more questions, look deeper, listen longer, and never underestimate what it means for someone to finally feel heard.
After years of struggling with her own health and searching for answers, her experience changed the trajectory of her life—and ultimately the way she understood health and cared for others.
It was a difficult season, but one that became deeply transformative. Karen began questioning whether managing symptoms was always the same as getting to the root of what the body was trying to communicate. She became increasingly interested in the body’s God-given ability to repair, regulate, and restore when given the right support.
And through it all, her faith grew.
Looking back, Karen can see that God was using even the hardest parts of her own journey to redirect her life and prepare her for work she couldn’t yet see.
What began as a personal search for answers eventually became a desire to help other people—especially those who felt frustrated, discouraged, or simply unheard.
In 2022, that calling took shape as The Well Cell. PEMF therapy became the foundation, but the vision was always bigger than a machine or a modality.
Karen wanted to create the kind of place she knew people needed: somewhere they could walk through the door, tell their whole story, be listened to without being rushed, and know that the person sitting across from them genuinely cared.
The Well Cell was never part of Karen’s original plan for her life. But looking back, she believes it was very much part of God’s.
Her own significant health challenges became an important part of why she began looking beyond conventional approaches alone and eventually expanded her nursing background into functional nutrition and whole-body wellness.
Then came a season of tremendous personal and professional change. Kate was grieving the loss of her grandmother, reevaluating her career, and beginning to recognize that perhaps it was time to stop keeping one foot in the “safe” option and trust where God was leading her.
What could have looked like things falling apart was actually making room for something new.
And that path eventually led to The Well Cell.
Today, Kate brings a deeper layer to what we do. Her approach draws on functional nutrition, hair tissue mineral analysis, and muscle testing, tools that look past symptoms to what the body is actually trying to say.
Much of her heart is with pediatric care and families. She has sat with parents navigating ADHD, PANS/PANDAS, eczema, migraines, and the kind of behavioral and gut challenges that don’t show up neatly on a chart, the ones that send a family searching when the usual answers haven’t worked.
Adults find their way to her too. Fatigue that won’t lift. Digestive struggles that have gone on too long. Hormones out of balance, inflammation, brain fog that sleep never quite fixes.
She meets all of it the same way. Not with a quick fix, but with a real look at what’s underneath.
At first, it was simply two nurses working alongside one another, each bringing different knowledge, experience, and strengths to the table. But something began to change.
Ideas flowed naturally. Our philosophies about health and caring for people aligned. We shared the same desire to educate rather than create dependence, to look at the whole person rather than a single symptom or lab result, and to create a place where people had time to be heard.
And neither of us believes the timing was accidental. Looking back, we can see God’s hand in the experiences that shaped us individually, in the difficult seasons that redirected us, and in ultimately bringing our paths together.
Two nurses. Two very different paths. One shared purpose.
We bring clinical education and experience, complementary areas of expertise, and our own lived experiences to the table. But above all, we bring a shared belief that people deserve to be listened to, cared for as a whole person, and reminded that there is still hope.
We aren’t meant to replace your medical care. And we will never promise an outcome we can’t guarantee.
What we will do is listen. We’ll help you better understand your body and your options. We’ll meet you where you are. And when something is outside our scope, we’ll tell you.
We believe God brought us together for a reason, and we want the way we serve people here to reflect that. The Well Cell is our work. The purpose behind it is bigger than us.
People come for PEMF. They stay because of how we care.
We do not define success by the number of services we offer. We define it by the number of lives we get to be part of. PEMF, minerals, and the program are tools. They are not the point.
The point is that you leave here with more hope, more understanding, and a clearer path forward than you had when you walked in. That you feel seen, heard, and genuinely cared for. Some weeks that looks like a session. Some weeks it looks like an hour to talk about how life is going. Both count.
Evidence first, always.
Support the body, do not override it.
Rebuild, do not patch.
We will tell you if we cannot help.
You are allowed to expect better.
And yes, that is Toby, our unofficial greeter. He has opinions about who needs a session most.
Kate believes in more salt, not less. Ask her about it sometime.
“This is a great privilege... It isn’t about or for me. It is for the people in our community who are losing or have lost hope in obtaining or regaining a state of health and wellness.”
Clients who finish the ninety-day program tend not to leave. They just shift into a different rhythm. That was always the hope, that this becomes the place you call when something feels off.
I had given up hope and resigned myself to a life of pain. I had gone to chiropractors, therapy, and even had the nerves burned but to no avail. I felt immediate relief! Karen takes the time to talk and listen to your health issue. After all the years of pain, this has been such a blessing!
